Happisburgh Lifeboat Station
April 2012
The Station has had delivery of their new state of the art Lifejackets; the crews will be able to carry out their roles of saving lives at sea with greater safety and more comfort. The lifejackets are slimmer and lighter, which allows more freedom for the lifeboat crew to have greater range of movement. Each lifejacket costs £ 330 each; Happisburgh Station needs 12 to cover the crews of both the station’s lifeboats.
Happisburgh Lifeboat Station is raising money to cover the cost of the new lifejackets, to this end members of the station will be at ASDA in Norwich on Saturday 28th April 2012 from 08:30 to 18:00hrs, collecting money for the good cause.
We would be most grateful for any help in publicising this event so the Crew can raise as much as possible for this worthwhile cause.
25th February 2012
Happisburgh Lifeboat Station held their annual Dinner Dance and Award Presentation last night, 25th February, at Sutton Staithe Hotel, with 110 people attending.
Awards were presented by Philip Smith to Lyn Barford who has stood down from running the Station shop after ten years in charge; in this time Lyn and her team have been the top selling small shop in the RNLI. Lyn was presented with a signed scroll from the RNLI.
The Kelvin Baker Achievement Award was presented by Matt Bales, last years winner, to Christian Larter, who was voted for by the rest of the crew. This was based on his successful progression through his training; Christian joined the crew in September 2009, completed his crew course in August 2010 and started his D-Class helm plan in April 2011. He has spent 152 hours afloat.
Jake Munday and Charlotte Siely were thanked for their efforts to raise money for their training last year. They did a sponsored parachute jump and raised £ 2,383.81. Charlotte also became the first female to complete a crew course at Happisburgh.
Cubitt Siely was also thanked for his 33 year service on the crew; he is still very much involved with the Station as the Training Co-ordinator.
There was one sad point in the evening, being the news that Evelyn Ford, a great supporter of Happisburgh and RNLI, had died at the age of 94. Evelyn, from Berkhamsted was instrumental in raising the money for the Station’s D-Class “Spirit of Berkhamsted”; she will be sadly missed by the Station.
The raffle on the night raised £ 270, which meant the whole evening raised almost £ 600 which will go to paying for the Station’s new Lifejackets which are due to arrive in a month or so.

Early Morning Call for Happisburgh RNLI Volunteer Crew
This morning, 19th January, the pagers sounded at 3.45am to alert the crew to respond to a missing man in the Walcott area, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, with fears that he had gone onto the beach.
The crew responded in force with fifteen on Station by 3.55am. Just as the Station’s D – Class Lifeboat was about to enter the water a call came from the Coastguard, the man had been found safe and sound. Crew Matt Bales, Tim Grimmer and Jake Munday returned the boat to Station.
All the crew then returned home to get back to bed.
